Wilberforce was named after William Wilberforce (1759-1833) a British politician and philanthropist. Established in 1810 it is one of the 5 “Macquarie Towns”  located north-west of Sydney on the Hawkesbury River. Home to Rose Cottage 1811-16 Australia’s oldest timber house still located its original site at Australiana pioneer village. The historic St Johns Anglican church is also located in the township, Wilberforce consists of a mixture of rural and residential properties with a population of just under 3000 people.
